The Cardinal by Pete Dye is certainly a gem of a golf course here in the Triad of North Carolina. It was purchased many years back by McConnell Golf and also acquired a new head greens keeper the early part of last season. Ross and his team have done an amazing job and it is truly in the best condition in recent history.
I was recently asked to photograph the course from top to bottom to showcase all the improvements and also to have an archive of the entire course for a new website roll out and other marketing efforts of the club. I strategically photographed the course in the early morning and late afternoon hours to show the course in a variety of different lighting conditions and angles.
I have personally belonged to this club for about 8 years now and an avid golfer since I was a kid, so when I was asked to work on this project I was certainly excited to help and showcase this Greensboro based golf club. The images below are some of my personal favorites.
This first block of images are from the early morning at sunrise.
This second block of favorites were captured during the afternoon hours on a Monday when the course was closed so I had access to the entire grounds with no players on the course. It allowed me to shoot each hole from the tee box, fairway approach area and green side.
This third block of favorites were captured late afternoon into dusk for a very cool look with long shadows on the course and amazing light that evening in late June. The "golden hour" is that magical time before sunset when photographers tend to capture their best work. I was very pleased with how this project turned out.
